About Hanna

For more than 15 years, I've been printing in one way or another. I studied intaglio methods as an undergraduate and worked in a mix of screen printing and sculpture during my MFA. Along the way, I worked in a conservation lab at a rare book library, which turned into a deep education in bookbinding and handmade paper techniques. I also spent a few years as a docent at a letterpress museum, learning to set type and demonstrate printing on a platen press. That love of traditional processes has stayed with me and still shapes my artistic voice today.

After leaving the university setting, I took up linoleum block printing for its versatility. I could carve and print almost anywhere. I've lived in several regions across the US, and wherever I land, I find a way to set up a small home studio. Over time, my work shifts and adapts along with me, taking root in whatever natural surroundings I find myself in. I'm drawn to natural elements and birds as symbols—a reminder to slow down and look closer.

I love the hands-on nature of drawing and carving everything by hand. Each mark I carve becomes part of the story, and meaning builds up through layers and texture. There's something beautiful about how traditional printing processes force you to slow down. I'm drawn to making images that feel quietly familiar, like places you might remember or dream about and exploring how the natural world around us becomes woven into our own stories and memories.
